The Shangri-La Diet

This is perhaps one of the strangest diets I have ever read about or tried.  Yes, you heard me right….I actually tried it.  I still can’t believe that I did.

The premise of the diet is that you take in 100 to 400 calories of sugar water and flavorless, edible oil per day.  You are supposed to consume the sugar water and oil before meals or at least an hour after the meal.  The sugar water and oil are supposed to lower your body’s natural set point and you lose weight as a side affect of the intake of these items.

I can tell you that taking a couple of tablespoons of pure, light, extra virgin olive oil at a time is no picnic.  The oil made me nauseous and I didn’t want to eat anything after consuming it.  I guess in that sense, it worked.  LOL!

If you are one of the curious people, you can read the book, The Shangri-La Diet, the No Hunger, Eat Anything Weight Loss Plan.  There are even forums available from people who swear that this works.  They even offer tips on how to get the oil down.  It is definitely one of the more interesting diets around.  If you decide to try it, let me know how it goes for you.  The extra Omega-3’s should be good for you.  I’m just not sure about swallowing so much pure oil, though.  If you can get it down and it works for you…more power to you!
