Are Diet Pills Ever Really a Good Idea?

March 29th, 2008 · 2 Comments

There has been a discussion in the forums lately about diet pills. And I was wondering, are diet pills ever really a good idea? We look for the magic solution to our weight problems and no price is too high if we can find it in a bottle. But what are we really paying? Is the price of our health worth the risk that it just may help a little bit?

Are You On The Easter Diet?

March 19th, 2008 · No Comments

Too often at holiday times, we find ourselves varying and straying from our diet plans. We make excuses for our dieting mishaps and blame it on whichever holiday we are about to celebrate. This is a dangerous practice that we need to overcome.

As I have spoken with different friends the past few days, there has been a general concurrence that too many of us are following an Easter diet filled with sugared candies and chocolates. We are bringing into our homes baskets of candy items and sweet treats to fill our Easter baskets. But we are instead stuffing our mouths with the items and then running back out to purchase more for Easter Sunday.

Confessions of a Wayward Dieter

March 16th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I was discussing with my husband this afternoon about the fact that I just feel so tired and worn out today. As we talked it over, it became really clear to me why I was so tired and worn out. I had forgotten to take care of myself today. I’ve done so many things wrong for my health that it is really no wonder that I am so exhausted. So what have I done wrong?

Of Cabbages and Kings

March 12th, 2008 · No Comments

Cabbage, here is a food that we used to consume 27 pounds of in the 1920’s.  Today we are lucky if we consume 9 pounds of this nutritional vegetable.

Coming in many shapes, colors and sizes, cabbage is readily available and a great source of vitamin C.  It is full of iron, calcium, potassium, and many other vitamins, notably vitamins B1, B2, B3, and vitamin A (of which bok choy contains the most in comparison to savoy and napa).

Diet doesn’t have to be ‘DIE’ with a ‘T’

March 11th, 2008 · No Comments

garfield.jpgWhen many people hear the word “diet”, they conjure up images that just aren’t pleasant. Too often they associate the word “diet” with hunger and deprivation. They begin to feel irritable and contemplate when they can “go off a diet”. In short, they view the word “diet” as ‘DIE’ with a ‘T’. It doesn’t have to be this way.

The actual word “diet” comes from the Greek word diata. This word simply means: way of life. This is a sound suggestion that a diet should be a manifestation of eating well; and is one part of a lifestyle that is balanced and can be maintained. That doesn’t sound so scary, does it?

A Restaurant Dinner Doesn’t Have to = Disaster

March 9th, 2008 · No Comments

Photo Courtesy of FlickrYesterday, I ran away with my family to the movie theater. It was great fun and I was able to avoid the concessionary temptations that were placed before me and just have a bottled water. I did great and I felt good about my efforts to stick with my current eating plan. Then my husband threw a curveball into our plans for the day and suggested dinner out at the Outback. He was met with an enthusiastic “Yes!” and we were off to the restaurant.

No Fat For Me, Thanks…

March 7th, 2008 · No Comments

fat-model.jpgI went to a science fair today with my son. While my son didn’t actually do a project this year, he loves science and his virtual academy was having a science fair for all of the middle school aged kids in the school community. We had to travel about an hour away to participate. It was interesting to see all of the many projects displayed in the name of science.

Fat Can Kill You

March 7th, 2008 · No Comments

Yesterday I was in the car a lot shuffling kids here and there and actually got to listen to some news on the radio.  I don’t have any real number stats as I was unable to jot down certain information but it appears Americans aren’t taking dieting seriously or whatever we are doing is not working.

I was amazed to hear that Americans have quit smoking and they wear their seatbelts more.  Meanwhile the numbers for the clinically obese are rising.  America is still fat and getting fatter.  The fat free and sugar free isn’t working I take it.
