How Dangerous is Obesity?

Most people are aware that being overweight brings with it some health risks, but few people are aware of how dangerous it is to be among the nearly thirty percent of the population that is considered obese.

I mentioned some of the serious risk associated with obesity in an earlier post, but let’s reiterate the most common(and most severe) ones: heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, gallstones, osteoarthritis, gout, sleep apnea and asthma.

I came across an article on Web MD entitled Weight Loss: Health Risks Associated with Obesity and the facts (including the list above) are astounding.  One point referenced in the first paragraph particularly struck a chord with me when it comes to being within your particular healthy weight range - people who are 40 percent overweight are twice as likely to die prematurely as an average weight person.

So the simple answer to the question of how dangerous obesity is - it’ll probably kill you, I’d say that’s pretty dangerous.

You can find the complete article here, it’s definitely worth reading and passing on… sometimes the only way to get through to people is to give them a bit of a scare.
