<p>Yet there are also other skeptics that will tell you that it is not effective. It is just a fad diet and holds no truth to its claims. They will tell you that they have either tried it or know someone who tried it and it did not work. Plain and simple, it just does not work and you cannot convince them that it does.</p>
<p>Well, it is time to separate the fat from the meat and find out the truth about this weight loss controversy.</p>
<p>A new study was done by the Nutrition and Metabolic Research Center and it found that just by adding grapefruit or grapefruit juice to your diet can actually cause you to lose weight. A twelve-week pilot test was done to monitor the weight loss factor of insulin secretion, which affect the metabolic levels in your body.</p>
<p>This pilot study included both men and women to ensure that it was done with both sexes to get a more comprehensive result. As science would have it, it turned out that on average all the participants that had half a grapefruit with each of his or her meal lost weight. Yes, those who had grapefruit with their meal lost a total of 3.6 pounds. Other participant was given grapefruit juice instead of just the fruit. Those who had grapefruit juice verse grapefruit juice lost only 3.3 pounds. But please remember that these numbers were just average. The study reveals that some of the participants lost more than 10 pounds! Now those numbers are definitely not a myth or a fad diet. This study has scientific numbers to back it that it really does work. The data will now back up the words of those who swear by their grapefruit diet.</p>
<p>The study proved that there is a physiological link between insulin and grapefruit as it pertains to weight loss. The chemical properties of the grapefruit reduce the insulin levels and thus encourage weight loss to occur.</p>
<p>It must be noted though that the participants of this pilot study did moderate exercise routine. Thought the research clearly shows that because grapefruit reduces insulin levels, it causes weight loss, you should realize that some kind of exercise was involved. For any weight loss program to be effective, it must have some amount of exercise, even moderate at best. Some foods or in this case fruit will cause weight loss but you will get even faster results when you add exercise to your weight loss plan.</p>

<p>Many experts have agreed that the required daily amount of water that should be consumed by the average individual is 64 ounces. If almost does not even feel like your are on a diet, yet you are still loosing weight. The most important part of the diet is to follow the plan that your counselor lays out for you.</p>

<p>The program will assign you a counselor that will help you decide on what foods to eat and they will keep you motivated so that you stay on your weight loss plan. The truth is everything you do is your responsibility and it is a good idea to introduce healthy eating into your home. It is ok to use any recipe that you have been using before because with a few changes you can turn it into a Healthy LA Weight Loss approved food item. There are a lot of recipe sources as well that you can find great food that you can make that will help you loose weight and feel great. It is always best to consult with your program counselor and find out if a recipe or food is ok to use for the plan.</p>
<p>Eating in a healthy way is a great lifestyle change and should be embraced with open arms. The great thing about the LA Weight Loss program is that they encourage a change in lifestyle and even if they are small changes it can make a big difference in your life.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>One of the newest fads in the way of kitchen help for dieters is these new discs from a company called Portionpal.  What happened to measuring cups and spoons?  You get five discs, called Portionpals, one each for meat, chicken, fish, sides, and desserts.  Portionpals are circles with lines in the center that you use for cutting guides while preparing your food.  Position your steak on top of the Portionpal disc and cut on the lines, oh wait, the Portionpal lines are under the steak….hmmm, oops, now where’s that first aid kit?</p>
<p>Never mind, you can take Portionpal to a restaurant with you.  Of course I don’t know what the protocol is for this.  Do you give the Portionpal to the chef or play with your food in the restaurant? </p>
<p>Luckily you’ll be happy to know that Portionpal serves double duty as cutting boards so they won’t have to make it into the garage sale pile anytime too soon. </p>
<p>Outside of the awkwardness of using Portionalpal…okay, I’m sure it isn’t that difficult, it isn’t like woodshop…the one flaw I find with it is how high can you pile the food while still staying within the Portionpal lines?  Jenga anyone?  I’m just saying, I don’t know if outside of these discs there is any other practical dieting assistance.</p>
<p>I have to hand it to Portionpal; marketing at its finest.  I’ve read that they have companies buying these up to give to their employees in hopes to minimize their healthcare costs. How about more gyms in the workplace or nutritional help? </p>
<p>The real problem I have with these is the price.  $18, plus shipping and handling for the <a href="http://www.portionpal.com/">Portionpal </a>product is over the top.  How much you want to bet you end up paying near $30 to get these? You can buy this style of cutting board at the dollar store and draw lines on it for pete&#8217;s sake.  If you want a portion control item in your home, maybe look for the plates that just help you eyeball servings, or as previously reviewed get a copy of The Portion Teller to help you discern serving sizes on your own without the help of a tool.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.weightreductioncoach.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/food-label.JPG" alt="food-label.JPG" align="right" height="200" width="200" />I recently had an enlightening moment at the Vet with my beagle.  I was looking into boarding my dog at this clinic as my current (and now former) vet did not offer this service.  We are going on a trip during our Spring Break and we wanted the four legged beast to receive the best of care.   We were discussing the weight problem my poor baby suffers from and what exactly to do about it.  He has been on a strict diet for 2 ½ of his 3 years of age.</p>
<p>I am very anal about how much food he gets and treats are rare.  I measure his diet food in a dry measuring cup and he gets no more than 2 cups of food per day. (Which for his size really isn’t a lot of food.)    He has food allergies, so we are very careful what we feed him. We walk and walk and not a single pound does he lose.  His entire butt wags when he wags his tail, so we often call him the butt-wagger.  (You would think he would lose weight just from that alone.) I’ve often questioned his thyroid levels as he is quite lethargic at times, but his former vet did not think that could be the problem.</p>
<p>While visiting with his now new vet, we were discussing the brand of food he has been eating for the past 2 years.  The conversation that ensued was enough to just really make me mad at all food manufacturers.  This is because some of what the vet revealed about pet food is the same for us humans.  I just hadn’t really thought about it in relation to my pet.</p>
<p>I was told that even though a food is labeled diet, does not mean it actually is a diet food.  It just probably has a few calories less than the regular food.  Since the calories are slightly lower, it can be labeled a diet food.  Even though I have been doing everything right, the food may be to blame as my dog has been getting more calories than we thought.</p>
<p>So the lesson learned here?  Read your labels.  Just because something claims to be low-fat or diet or light, doesn’t actually mean that it is a safe food.  Calories and fat grams still count and you will need to read the label carefully to know how much there is per serving and the size of that serving.  Be careful and cautious and you will come out on top, no matter how misleading that food label happens to be.</p>
<p>So, what about my beloved beagle?  Well, his new vet will be starting him on his new food and checking his thyroid while we are away.  (And clipping his nails, which is worth every penny as he hates to have his feet touched.  Score!)  I’ll let you know how things turn out.  I’m sure he will be sleek and trim before we know it and he will feel so much better.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Dieting is a struggle, and having just gotten back from vacation, all out of sorts from sleeping in and eating at odd hours, I was happy to start meeting with my diet conscious friends again. I have weight loss goals that need to be reevaluated.</p>
<p>This week’s meeting was extremely helpful for me as one of the dieters brought some exercise DVD’s to preview during our weight loss meeting. One of my dieting struggles lately has been trying to get an exercise routine started again. When I diet, I’m one of those people who need exercise. I need exercise to see results. Dieting alone does not give me enough in the way of feeling accomplished.</p>
<p>So we watched, boogied, were inspired and I had to thank her so much for sharing her experiences. Now newly motivate, I’ve looked at my weight loss goals in a new light and feel accomplished in one area, in that I know what I need to do now. Exercise!</p>
