Many of the weight loss experts that you speak to will agree that snacking should be a part of every healthy and balanced diet, provided that the snacks are not piling on any empty and unnecessary calories. It truly is important for you to put some decent thought into the kinds of snacks that you are keeping on hand, this way you will not accidentally choose something which in high in calories, high in fat or high in sugar.

It is generally a good idea for you not to let yourself get hungry before you eat a snack or a meal, because eating when you are really hungry is a great way to encourage unwanted overeating.

It is also important that you drink a sufficient amount of water every single day, and throughout the day. The general recommendation is between 8 and 10 eight-ounce glasses of water every day. This will make sure that you are hydrated properly, and also will prevent you from overeating by making you feel less hungry throughout the day.

Another good idea is to include protein along with your snacks, as protein tends to make you feel full for longer periods of time than foods that are not high in protein.

Here are some ideas for healthy snacks. It’s important to understand that you will crave different snacks at different times, so try to vary what types of snacks you keep on hand at home, in the car and at work. You should choose snacks that sound best, and that fit in best with your individual eating plan or diet.

- Flavored popcorn, or flavored rice cakes.
- Pretzels and honey mustard dip.
- Baked tortilla chips.
- Salsa.
- Apples, sliced strawberries or raw veggies.
- Frozen Grapes
- String Cheese
- Yogurt in fat-free or low fat varieties.
- Low fat chocolate milk.
- Cottage cheese and fresh fruit.
- Banana dipped in fat-free whipped cream.
- Fat free hot cocoa or hot chocolate.
- Fig bars
- Diet Root Beer Float
- Small Box of Raisins.
- Small box of animal crackers
- Graham crackers and non-fat milk.

It is recommended to keep a running list of your favorite snacks so that you can be sure to always have them on hand. With so many healthful and filling snacks on hand, why on earth would you go back to the bad stuff?
