There has been a discussion in the forums lately about diet pills. And I was wondering, are diet pills ever really a good idea? We look for the magic solution to our weight problems and no price is too high if we can find it in a bottle. But what are we really paying? Is the price of our health worth the risk that it just may help a little bit?
Diet pills run the gamut from the placebo to the dangerous. Do you really know what is in that little pill that promises that you will take off the weight? Some of them use buzz words that we have heard and then immediately think that it surely must work. But do they really? Or do we just imagine that they will?
Are we making the manufacturers of these little pills rich at the expense of our health? Or do they sometimes work? Are diet pills ever really a good idea? If not, then perhaps we should think about what we are doing. If so, then which ones and why? I look forward to your comments on this subject…

I know what you mean. I wrote a post on my health blog about Alli, the weight loss pill. It had some pretty scary warnings (including bowel seepage) and required such careful counting that it didn’t seem that much easier than dieting/exercise.
A lot of diet pills are quite dangerous so it’s a scary thing.

The problems that Alli can bring are just the ones I don’t really want to deal with! LOL! Thanks for your comment!
